Welcome to CRESS
We are a nonprofit, Community Based Organization: We provide slum communities with tools to create bright futures for themselves. We empower youth and women, in Korogocho and Mathare slums of Nairobi- Kenya.
Our programs are geared towards economic, educational and human rights advancement. Since inception in 2011, we have helped over 5,000 vulnerable slum children complete basic education, and empowered 800 youth and 300 women through entrepreneurship and vocational training. We have also trained women on how to make solar cookers using locally available materials
Sato Leo! is a phrase that refers to Sanitary towels today. As such we provide Sanitary Towels on every session we visit the schools. We through partnerships with organizations like Chandaria Industries and well wishers make sure that we have a year’s supply of sanitary towels to all the students in the program. Besides, during the visits, our female colleagues underscore the need for observing hygiene and demonstrate how to use the Towels. Most importantly they remind the ladies that it is okay to be girls. This raises their self esteem.
SEMA is a guidance and counseling initiative that involves sessions between our counselors and the students. The informative discussion design session involves peers talking to their sisters and brothers about life challenges and how to overcome them. Most importantly is the ability of students to freely interact with the team and share their experiences.
